Empowering Digital Inclusion for Seniors and Small Businesses
As the DIGITAL-IN project comes to its conclusion, we are proud to share the key outcomes of this European collaboration dedicated to strengthening digital inclusion for digitally vulnerable groups.
Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, DIGITAL-IN brought together a consortium of organisations committed to improving digital skills in adult education. The project was implemented by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) as coordinator, together with EMiT Feltrinelli ETS (Italy), Fundación Magtel (Spain), and Intercollege (Cyprus).
The initiative focused on two groups that often face barriers in digital transformation: seniors and small business owners, whose ability to access and effectively use digital technologies is essential for full participation in today’s digital society.
Through research, stakeholder engagement and transnational cooperation, the consortium developed practical tools and educational resources designed to support adult educators, trainers and organisations working with digitally vulnerable learners.
Key Project Results
One of the central achievements of the project is the creation of open-access training resources, designed to be easily integrated into adult education and training programmes.
Digital Literacy Course
The DIGITAL-IN curriculum offers interactive and practical learning modules tailored to the needs of the project’s target groups.
For senior learners, the course focuses on essential digital skills for everyday life, including:
- navigating the internet safely
- accessing e-health services
- protecting personal data and avoiding online fraud.
For small business owners, the course introduces practical tools to support digital transformation, including:
- digital financial management
- productivity tools and AI-supported workflows
- safe and efficient online business operations.
Trainer Guidelines and Methodological Manual
To support educators and trainers, the project has also developed a practical manual with methodologies for inclusive digital education.
The guidelines provide actionable recommendations on how to:
- adapt training programmes to the needs of digitally vulnerable learners
- design accessible and engaging digital learning activities
- implement inclusive teaching strategies in adult education contexts.
These resources are intended to support adult education providers, community organisations, trainers and policy stakeholders working to bridge the digital divide.
Engaging Local Communities Across Europe
Beyond developing training resources, DIGITAL-IN partners actively worked to engage stakeholders and communities at the local level.
Each partner country organized local dissemination events, workshops and stakeholder meetings to present the project’s findings and tools to educators, digital inclusion actors, and representatives of organizations supporting seniors and small businesses.
These events created valuable opportunities to:
- share experiences and best practices in digital inclusion
- discuss the digital challenges faced by vulnerable groups
- encourage the adoption of the project’s training resources in local learning initiatives.
Through these activities, DIGITAL-IN strengthened collaboration between educators, community organizations, employment services and digital inclusion stakeholders across Europe.
Explore the Project Resources
All DIGITAL-IN educational materials are freely available and open access.
We invite educators, trainers, organisations and stakeholders to visit the project website, explore the learning modules and integrate these tools into their training initiatives.
Together, we can continue working toward a more inclusive, accessible and digitally empowered Europe.
